WhatsApp gets a completely new design (but only on the iPhone)

WhatsApp is currently rolling out an update that completely changes the design of the iPhone app. This is what you can expect!

WhatsApp is getting a completely new design

It regularly happens that WhatsApp releases an update. This generally adds new features to the app. It is a lot less common for WhatsApp’s design to be overhauled. Yet that is exactly what will happen when you receive the next update.

WhatsApp’s new design has everything to do with the Liquid Glass design that Apple integrated into iOS 26. Parent company Meta has not yet announced the update, but some WhatsApp users already have the updated interface with Apple’s new Liquid Glass design. This is what it looks like:

WABetaInfo

The image above is from WABetaInfo. WhatsApp released an update for iOS last week that adds support for Live Photos and text message translation on the device itself. For some users, the update also brought the new Liquid Glass design to WhatsApp, with the tab bar at the bottom being the most noticeable change. Several users on social media have already shown the new interface.

As noted by WABetaInfo, this may be a limited test of Meta, prior to a wider rollout. Meta started experimenting with Liquid Glass support in the beta version of WhatsApp last month, and now some users of the public version are reportedly getting it too. Due to its massive user base worldwide, WhatsApp tends to implement major changes very slowly compared to other platforms.

In the release notes, WhatsApp generally states that it may take several weeks before all new features are available to everyone. If you don’t have the new Liquid Glass interface in WhatsApp yet, wait a few days – the new design should be available on your iPhone within a few days.
