WhatsApp will stop on old iPhones
WhatsApp has released a new test version, warning that older iPhones will soon no longer support the application. WhatsApp currently still works on all iPhones running iOS 12 or newer, but that will change in a few months. Then iPhones must have iOS 15 or newer installed to use the WhatsApp application.
Does your iPhone still run iOS 12? In that case, you will soon have to update the device to a newer software version to use WhatsApp. Unfortunately, not all iPhones support iOS 15 or newer, because every year outdated devices are replaced by a new generation of iOS. As a result, a number of iPhones are stuck on iOS 12, so you can no longer use WhatsApp on those iPhones.
These devices fall off
This concerns the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. These devices now run iOS 12.5.7 and cannot update to a newer iOS version. This means that WhatsApp will soon no longer work on these iPhones. Do you still have one of these devices? Then you can only use WhatsApp for a short time, because from May 5, 2025 stops WhatsApp on the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.
It often happens that applications no longer work on outdated devices. This has to do with new features and security functions, which require a newer version of iOS. These (security) functions often work with components that were only introduced in iOS 15 or later. That is why WhatsApp has now chosen to discontinue the app on iPhones that still run iOS 12.5.7.
Still use WhatsApp
Not sure if your iPhone can update to iOS 15 or newer? Then check which update is available on the device. You will find updates under ‘Settings > General > Software update’. Does it say that your iPhone is up to date with iOS 12.5.7? This means that your iPhone no longer supports the latest iOS versions. You will no longer be able to use WhatsApp on your iPhone from May.
