WhatsApp will no longer work on iPhones with iOS 10 and iOS 11 this fall. This means that the messaging service will drop support for two iPhones.
No WhatsApp support for iPhone 5
According to the website WEBetaInfo, WhatsApp is warning iPhone users with iOS 10 or iOS 11. They must upgrade their iPhone to continue using the popular messaging service after October 24.
There are two iPhones with iOS 10 and iOS 11 being the highest possible software version. It concerns these iPhone models:
- iPhone 5;
- iPhone 5c.
If you have one of these iPhones, it will no longer be possible to WhatsApp with it from October. So time for an upgrade. Not sure which iPhone you have? Open the Settings app and tap General > About. Next to ‘Model name’ you can see which device you have.
So you need iOS 12 or newer to continue using WhatsApp. If there is an older software version on your device, go to ‘Settings>General>Software Update’ to install the latest operating system. On most iPhones, that’s iOS 15.
Which iPhone to upgrade to?
If you have an iPhone 5 or iPhone 5c and you use WhatsApp, then it is really time for an upgrade this year. If you don’t want to spend too much money on it, the iPhone SE 2022 is an interesting option.
The iPhone SE 2022 is by far the cheapest iPhone that Apple offers (it costs about 500 euros) and is equipped with the latest technology. It has a very powerful A15 Bionic processor and supports mobile internet with 5G.
Furthermore, there are more interesting options in this price range – especially when you look at refurbished iPhones. You can read more about this in the article Overview: the three best iPhones under 500 euros in 2022.
