Why the AirPods Pro 2 are my Apple product of the year

A lot of Apple products have been released this year. But the AirPods Pro 2 with USB-C were my absolute favorite. And this is why.

It’s crazy. This year, Apple released a fantastic new iPhone 15 Pro, a great 15-inch MacBook Air and, to top it all off, a new iMac with M3 chip. All great hardware that you can do a lot with.

And yet a much simpler Apple product of 2023 is my favorite, the AirPods Pro 2 with USB-C. And in this article I am going to explain what makes the AirPods so special to me.

AirPods Pro 2 with USB-C: the ultimate earbuds

I was a big fan of Apple’s AirPods from the start. Back when everyone was laughing about the protruding toothbrushes coming out of your ears, I admired the simplicity of this Apple product. For me, the AirPods were the first Apple product in years that was almost perfect. Basically, AirPods can only do quite a bit, but that is precisely why Apple can make all aspects work perfectly. In that respect, the AirPods most resemble Apple’s now antique iPods.

Seven years after the first AirPods, the product series has grown to four different models, with the AirPods Pro 2 with USB-C currently being both the newest and the best product. At least for me.

Method still perfect

Apple has taken great care to ensure that even the high-end AirPods Pro 2 still only have so many features that Apple can guarantee perfection. So what can the AirPods Pro 2 do?

Initially, the earbuds are of course equipped with useful functions such as automatic play/pause via integrated sensors and support for ‘Hey Siri’. The updated design of the caps ensures a comfortable fit, while the battery life and wireless charging options increase user-friendliness.

Since the release of iOS 17, the AirPods have even received additional features that make noise cancellation even easier to operate. For example, noise cancellation is automatically stopped as soon as someone starts talking to you, or activated if there is noise in the background.

Finally, an updated version of the AirPods Pro 2 was released in September 2023. In terms of functions, hardly anything has changed – except for lossless audio in combination with the Vision Pro – but it now has USB-C as a connection. Handy because soon you will probably only need one charging cable, really practical because you can now charge your AirPods via your iPhone 15. Finally.

Noise reduction against crying baby

Finally, a personal anecdote about why the AirPods Pro 2 became my Apple product of the year. I’ve recently become a proud father, and while your baby’s bawling is usually music to my ears, every now and then I’m glad that the noise cancellation can compete quite well with my daughter’s 120 dB. The noise is not filtered out 100%, but it makes the day after a sleepless night a little more pleasant.
