With this iPhone tips you sign a PDF digitally

You must have heard that it is possible, but how exactly does it work? In this week’s iPhone tips we explain how you can sign a PDF or other document digitally.

1. Sign PDF from Mail

You can easily sign a PDF on your iPhone. And even in two different ways. The first way is to sign a document from Mail. That works as follows:

  1. Open the mail app and then the e-mail with the PDF;

  2. Open the PDF and tap the pencil downstairs;

  3. Choose the plus button at the bottom right and tap ‘Add signature’;

  4. Choose an existing signature, or tap ‘Add Signature or Remove’ to create a new one;

  5. Drag the signature in the PDF to the right place. Choose ‘Done> New Message’ to place the signed PDF in a new e-mail.

2. Sign pdf with the files app

The second way to sign a PDF digitally on your iPhone is the PDF edit with the Files-App. This app is on your device as standard and is comparable to the Finder for the Mac (or the Explorer for Windows). To start, make sure you have stored the PDF in the files app.

Does your document have a different file format than PDF? Then first convert it to PDF. After this you can follow the steps below:

  • Open the files app, look up the PDF and open it;
  • Tap the pencil downstairs;
  • Choose the plus button at the bottom right and tap ‘Add signature’;
  • Choose an existing signature, or tap ‘Add Signature or Remove’ to create a new one;
  • Drag the signature to the right place in the PDF. With a tap on ‘ready’ you save the document including signature;
  • Open the PDF again and tap the part icon at the bottom left to put the file in a new e-mail, or to send it via AirDrop.

You can also put a signature on a PDF with preview, an app that is on your Mac as standard (not on your iPhone). You do a PDF digitally on your Mac in this way:

  • Make sure the PDF is in Finder;
  • Ctrl-click the PDF and choose ‘Open with> Pre-Display’;
  • Click on the pencil at the top to show the marker button bar;
  • In the button bar, click the icon with the signature;
  • Choose an existing signature, or select ‘Create signature’;
  • Use the trackpad to put a scribble;
  • Drag the signature to the desired location and key CMD+S to save;
  • Click on the sub-icon to send the document.
