Thanks to a new update for WhatsApp, the chat app finally becomes truly secure. We show you how to set up this function.
With this new feature, WhatsApp is finally safe
WhatsApp is finally becoming secure and will now support passKeys, just like more apps and websites. This also makes it much easier to log in to WhatsApp. This is especially useful if you want to use the app on a new device, for example.
You first have to set up the function, and you do this as follows.
Set up passkeys with WhatsApp
- Open the WhatsApp app;
- Tap ‘Settings’;
- Go to ‘Account > Passkeys’;
- Tap ‘Create passkey’;
- Choose where you want to save the passkey, for example iCloud keychain and choose ‘Continue’;
- Log in with Face ID or Touch ID.
There are quite a few advantages to this way of logging in. Of course, you no longer have to fiddle with passwords and in the case of WhatsApp, logging in becomes easier (and safer).
Of course, you don’t have to log in to WhatsApp again often, but this makes it more difficult for malicious parties to access your account. And that is of course always welcome.
Remove passkey in WhatsApp
You can also delete the passkey you have set. You do this by opening WhatsApp and going to ‘Settings > Account > Passkeys’. Then choose ‘Move in’. Please note that this makes WhatsApp a lot less secure.
Update WhatsApp
WhatsApp will roll out the update in the near future. So it may be that the position is not available for you yet. Therefore, keep an eye on WhatsApp updates and update the app when an update is ready for you.
To check if updates for apps like WhatsApp are ready for you, follow the steps below.
- Open the ‘App Store’ and tap your profile photo at the top right;
- Place your finger on the screen and drag your finger down. Do this until the loading icon appears;
- When updates are ready for you, lift your finger, scroll down, and tap Update All.
