Good news for anyone who doesn’t use Apple Maps to navigate. From now on, both Waze and Google Maps finally have Siri support. This way you can use the assistant as your personal travel aid.
Finally Google Maps Support Siri
Now that iOS 13 is officially available, Waze and Google Maps are not giving up on taking advantage of the new capabilities. Once you have installed the update on your iPhone and installed the most recent version of the two navigation apps, you can use Siri from now on.
As a result, you can now say, for example, ‘Hey Siri, navigate to the station with Google Maps’, after which the assistant opens Google Maps and the correct route is ready. Also nice: this also applies to CarPlay, so that you can now change your route hands-free while driving with a voice command.
It is important that you specifically mention that you want to use Google Maps or Waze, if you don’t, Siri uses Apple Maps by default. Unfortunately, it is not possible to select a default navigation app for Siri yourself.
Siri is slowly opening its doors
Slowly but surely, Apple is giving developers more and more freedom to use Siri. There are also rumors that Spotify is working on Siri support, so that you can ask the assistant to set up a song or playlist, just like you can now with Apple Music. It is not clear whether and when this update will be available, but if Google Maps can do it, it does not seem impossible that Spotify will soon be next.
iOS 13 has been available for all supporting devices since last night. In addition to new Siri features, the update introduces a dark mode, a revamped Reminders app, Apple Arcade, and more. Read our iOS 13 review and watch the video to learn more about all that’s new.
