Recover Microsoft Account Password

A Microsoft account consists of an email address and password. This combination is necessary to log in to the company’s services, such as One Drive, Skype and Outlook.com. But what to do if you have forgotten the password and can no longer log in? Fortunately, Microsoft offers the option of password recovery.

If you create a Microsoft account, you can enter recovery information during the creation. This can be another e-mail address or a telephone number, to which a so-called verification code is sent if you have forgotten the password. Did you do this? Then go through the following steps:

• Surf in the browser to login.live.com/
• Enter the email address of the account.
• click on Next one.
• click on Forgot your password?
• Under ‘How would you like to receive your security code?’ a check mark at the desired location where you want to receive the verification code. This can contain a different e-mail address, (part of) your telephone number or both.
• Opted for an e-mail address? Click above the line and type the email address part for the at sign. Chosen for a phone number? Then click on Last 4 digits of phone number and enter the last 4 digits of your number.
• click on Get code.
• View the code in an email or text message and enter it on the website.
• click on Next one.
• click on New password.
• Create a new password and enter it.
• click on reenter password and type the password again.
• click on Next one.
• The password has been changed. Log in with this new password.

Did you not fill in recovery information when you created a Microsoft account? Or is the data no longer correct, for example because you have a new e-mail address or telephone number? Then reset the password as follows:

• Surf in the browser to login.live.com
• Enter the email address of the account and click Next one.
• click on Forgot your password?
• click on I don’t have any of this data.
• Fill in under ‘How can we contact you?’ Enter the email address to which the verification code should be sent. This cannot be the address you are trying to log in with.
• For security, enter the characters shown on the screen and click Next one.

The code will be sent to the other email address. Check it out there and then follow the steps in the paragraph above, from ‘Click on Get code‘.
