Cupra

The fact that Cupra originated from Seat can still be clearly seen on the Formentor and of course especially the Leon. That while it is already taking its own design direction. So it’s high time to put that right.

Cupra would never have existed without Seat, but Cupra currently wants nothing more than to profile itself as a separate brand. That is only a bit difficult if you still have two models in the showroom that are in principle really designed as a Seat (or according to Seat’s design philosophy). This is the case with the Cupra Formentor and the Cupra Leon, which is of course also available as a Seat. Cupra will soon rectify that by giving the two a fairly radical facelift.

Cupra has started a new phase with its own family face and models more exclusively as Cupra; the Tavascan, Raval and Terramar. It also focuses more on electrification, because the Tavascan and Raval are purely electric. In that respect too, the Leon and Formentor are lagging behind, although the Cupra Terramar will also have fuel engines. In any case, the appearance of the two will be completely ‘Cupra new style’, as we see in these spy photos. The Leon and the Formentor get completely new headlights with three separate elements and under the camouflage is a much lower positioned grille.

Cupra Leon facelift

How do we know that for sure? Well, unusually enough, Cupra briefly showed pre-production versions of the renewed Leon and Formentor a year ago. Count on the fact that the production versions differ at most minimally. You probably don’t have to count on major technical changes. We know the Cupra Leon as a 245 hp plug-in hybrid and recently also as a 150 hp mild hybrid and 204 hp plug-in hybrid. The Cupra Formentor is available in our country with the 204 hp and 245 hp plug-in hybrid powertrains. We unfortunately have to miss the five-cylinder equipped VZ5 here.
