New test version for iOS 17.4
Apple has released iOS 17.4 beta 2, with important changes for users within the European Union. It was already clear that enormous adjustments were coming to your iPhone due to new European legislation. These were not yet visible in the first test version of iOS 17.4, but Apple did add a number of new features in beta 2.

In iOS 17.4 beta 2, Apple charges custom commissions in the App Store. In addition, it is possible to use third-party browsers and install apps from external App Stores. This means you will soon no longer need Apple’s App Store to download applications. However, that does not mean that you will soon be able to install just any app. Apple implements these restrictions.
Apple continues to monitor apps
All apps in the App Store are checked in advance by Apple. In this way, the company tries to protect users from malware or other unsafe apps. Apple is also obliged to do this under European law, because the company must ensure a safe digital environment. That is why Apple also joins sideloading iOS 17.4 beta 4 still controls which apps are put on your iPhone.
The advantage here is that the chance of unreliable software in apps is smaller. The disadvantage is that you also have to… sideloading you have little freedom when installing apps on your iPhone. It is therefore questionable whether the European Union agrees with the changes that Apple is implementing in iOS 17.4 beta 4, because this means that small developers do not have a fair chance of releasing apps.
More changes in iOS 17.4 beta 2
Other changes Apple is making in iOS 17.4 beta 2 include a range of new emoji, including a head shaking up and down and a head shaking back and forth. Beta 2 of iOS 17.4 is now available to everyone with a developer account with Apple. We don’t have to wait much longer for the official version of iOS 17.4, because Apple has to adhere to the European Union’s deadline. That means that sideloading coming to your iPhone before March 6, 2024. Soon you will finally be able to install apps without the App Store, if you want to.
