A bruise hurts and doesn’t look nice: With our tricks and home remedies you can treat bruises and get rid of them more quickly.

A bruise occurs after a fall, a clumsy bump or a bruise. Blood vessels rupture and blood becomes visible under our skin in a bluish to red color. If this is broken down, the areas turn yellowish.

It takes up to two weeks for a bruise to completely disappear. A hematoma, as the medical term goes, is not only unsightly to look at, it can also be quite painful. Use home remedies right from the start to keep the bruise as small as possible and to support healing.

Before you start treating with home remedies, you should first elevate the affected area and cool it with ice. The cold causes the blood vessels to constrict and swelling can be prevented.

If you don’t have anything to cool down at the moment, just laying it up and taking a short break will help. By not moving at first, the area will have less blood flow. The rest ensures that the bruise does not become so large and dark.

These home remedies will help you treat the bruise:

  • Arnica is traditionally used for bruises. The medicinal plant has, among other things, a pain-relieving effect. Apply arnica ointment to the bruise. If you have fresh arnica leaves at home, you can put them – crushed with a mortar – directly onto the hematoma.

  • Onions are also said to help. After a bruise, place half an onion on the affected area. However, the soothing effect has not been scientifically proven.
  • Parsley relieves pain thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties. To do this, grind a handful of parsley until it forms a paste and spread it over the bruise.

  • Apply some apple cider vinegar to a light cotton cloth and gently massage the bruise. This stimulates blood circulation on the surface of the skin and the blood collected in the hematoma is drained away. Apple cider vinegar is also used in wound care.
  • Gently dab some gel from one or more aloe vera leaves onto the area. Aloe vera also has an anti-inflammatory effect and has long been used for skin problems. The gel contains vitamins, minerals, enzymes and amino acids and is intended to prevent the bruise from turning purple and causing pain.
  • Place some cold curd on the injury and wrap a tea towel around it to prevent the curd from falling off. Leave it on the hematoma until it warms up. Quark wraps are said to have a decongestant, anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving effect. Quark has long been proven as a home remedy for health problems.
  • Depending on the size of the bruise, mash one to three cooked potatoes into a paste. Once it has cooled down, apply it to your bruise. Potatoes also have an anti-inflammatory effect.
  • Garlic also has an anti-inflammatory effect. Crushed and applied directly to the bruise, it helps the skin regenerate faster. You can also wrap the garlic in a tea towel.

If your bruise is very swollen, painful and also causes dizziness, you should seek medical help.
