With Adaptive Audio, sounds around you that you don’t want to miss are automatically amplified. This feature will be further improved in iOS 18.
AirPods Pro 2 get better adaptive audio in iOS 18
Apple’s AirPods Pro 2 feature Adaptive Audio with Personalized Volume and Call Detection. By combining Active Noise Cancellation and Transparency Mode, Adaptive Audio delivers the perfect sound that is fully adapted to the environment around you.
Currently you can only turn Adaptive Audio on or off, but that will change in iOS 18. Apple has added a ‘Customize Adaptive audio’ menu that allows you to adjust the setting for more or less noise cancellation.
AirPods Pro 2 beta firmware and iOS 18
If you’re using the AirPods Pro 2 with the latest beta firmware on an iPhone running iOS 18, you can open the AirPods section in the Settings app to see the new Adaptive Audio section. When you tap it, you’ll see a slider where you can set Adaptive Audio for less or more noise cancellation.
The feature mainly applies to Adaptive Noise Cancellation, a feature that combines Active Noise Cancellation and Transparency mode. It is designed to adjust the level of noise cancellation based on changing conditions in your environment. The ability to set more or less noise is therefore very useful.
The setting also affects Personalized Volume. That option adjusts the volume of the AirPods Pro 2 based on your personal volume preferences and environmental factors. The new settings will become generally available when iOS 18 is released in the fall. The settings of the earbuds can also be adjusted with iPadOS 18 and macOS Sequoia.
