ChatGPT in Apple Intelligence: this is how you enable it by default

If you have activated Apple Intelligence and also want to use ChatGPT, you must enable the ChatGPT extension – this is how you do it!

This is how you enable ChatGPT in Apple Intelligence

Your iPhone has received many new features since OS 26.1, including Apple Intelligence. Unfortunately, not all iPhones work with this new technology, Apple Intelligence is only available on the iPhone 15 Pro (Max) and newer. If you have such a recent iPhone, you can use Apple Intelligence in Dutch. You just have to enable it.

Apple Intelligence can then also use ChatGPT. This is then used, among other things, to help you write text, create images and answer questions. To do this, you must first enable the ChatGPT extension in the settings. We’ll show you how to do that:

  1. Open the Settings app;

  2. Scroll down a little;

  3. Tap ‘Apple Intelligence & Siri’;

  4. Scroll down a little and tap ‘ChatGPT’;

  5. Turn on the switch behind ‘Use ChatGPT’.

If you use a paid ChatGPT account, you also have the option to log in here. With a paid account, your iPhone can use advanced ChatGPT capabilities more often. To log in, tap ‘Log in’ under ‘ChatGPT account’. If you do not have a paid account, simply turning on the switch is sufficient. Below you can also see immediately whether the ChatGPT app on your iPhone is up to date. If not, tap ‘Update’ to update the app immediately.

Writing Assistant, Visual Intelligence and Siri

After you configure the ChatGPT extension, you can use it with Apple Intelligence features. This way you can write text with Writing Assistant. You can also use Visual Intelligence to ask ChatGPT for information about things around you and Siri can use ChatGPT when useful to get the information you’re looking for. You control when ChatGPT is used and you will be asked for permission before any of your information is shared (unless you disable the ‘Confirm requests’ option, see image above).
