Live Text lets you easily copy a name, email address, phone number, or other piece of text from a photo or image on your iPhone. How to do it and where to turn on the feature is explained iPhoned you out!
Live Text on iPhone: Turn on Feature
Before you can use the function, you need to check if the Live Text function is turned on on your iPhone. You can do this in the settings of your iPhone. To do this, follow the steps below.
Enable and use live text
- Open the ‘Settings’ app;
- Scroll down and tap on ‘General’;
- Scroll down a bit again and tap on ‘Language & Region’;
- At the very bottom, turn on the ‘Live Text’ feature on your iPhone.
The feature is now ready to use. Apple states that Live Text is available in Chinese, German, English, French, Italian, Cantonese, Portuguese and Japanese. But if you have set the iPhone to Dutch, the feature also works.
…and then scan
Once you have enabled the feature, you can get started. Launch the ‘Camera’ app and place your subject in the center of your screen. An icon with three lines will appear at the bottom right. Tap this and the text on the screen will be selected. Then tap ‘Copy’ to copy the text. Then paste the text into the app of your choice.
By the way, Live Text also works in photos that you have taken before. The procedure is almost the same. After opening the photo, tap the icon with the three lines. Then copy the desired text.
Google Lens: If you don’t have Live Text
The feature to copy text from a photo with Live Text is not new to the iPhone. Google Lens has had the feature for a while. The great thing about this is that this feature can be used on all iPhones (Live Text requires iOS 15 or later).
You will need the Google app for this. Once you have downloaded the app from the App Store, open it. Then tap the camera icon in the ‘Search…’ box (it is the icon on the right). Point your camera at the text you want to copy and take a picture. Tap and select the text you want in the picture. Then you can copy the text, listen to it, translate it and more.
