If you want to store files in Dropbox, you need an account with the storage service. Create this account for free to get started with the cloud service.
Dropbox account
With Dropbox, people can store up to 2 GB of files on the web (in the cloud) for free and use them on different devices. You need an account with the service for this. You create this after installing the program on your computer, tablet or smartphone or via the Dropbox website. Below we explain how creating an account works on the different devices.
Dropbox has different types of subscriptions. The free variant is called Dropbox Basic, and as mentioned, it offers up to 2 GB of free storage space. Those who come above have two options: delete files to free up storage space, or take out a paid subscription. The cheapest subscription for one user costs about 9.99 euros per month.
Windows and Mac

Create account via Android app
Dropbox has an app for Android devices. The user has access to the stored files via the app. First install the Dropbox app. You can create a free account immediately after installing the app.
- Tap on Register.
- Type your first name.
- Tap on Last name and type your last name.
- Tap on E-mail address and enter your email address.
- Create a password.
- Tap on password and enter the created password.
- Put a tick in front of I accept the Dropbox terms.
- Tap on create Account.
- Tap the cross in the top left to use a free Dropbox account.
- Tap on Skip now > Not now.
The account has been created and you are logged in to the Dropbox app.
Create account via iOS app
Dropbox has an app for iPhone and iPad. The user has access to the stored files via the app. First install the Dropbox app. You can create a free account immediately after installing the app. There are several options, namely logging in with the Apple ID data or registering with a Google account. The third option is to register manually. This way is preferred. When registering via Apple or Google, it is not always clear what happens to your data.
- Tap on Register.
- Tap on First Name and type your first name.
- Tap on Last name and type your last name.
- Tap on E-mail address and enter your email address.
- Tap on password > Choose my own password and enter a password.
- Tap the hk next to ‘I accept the Dropbox terms. read in our privacy policy how we use and protect your data.’ You can leave the box with text about e-mail updates empty, that is for advertising.
- Tap on create Account.
- Tap on Save password or Not now.
An advertisement will appear offering an offer to try a paid subscription for free for 30 days.
- Tap on To skip.
- Choose whether you want Dropbox to send you messages. We choose Allow.
The account has been created and you are logged in to the Dropbox app.
Create account via website
Dropbox has a program for PC and apps for mobile devices. The company would prefer that users use the service in this way. Do you want to put the program on the computer or the app on the tablet or smartphone? Then read the paragraphs above. If you don’t want that, create an account on the Dropbox website in a roundabout way. With the account details you log in to the website, but also to the app and the program on the computer.
- Go to www.dropbox.com
- click on To register.
- Click on the blue notification Create an account.
- click on First Nameand type your first name.

- click on password and enter a password.

- click on Create an account.
- Click below the offer for the paid subscriptions Or continue with the Dropbox Basic 2 GB plan.
- The ‘Download Dropbox’ button will appear on the screen. We assume you don’t want that. Click away from the browser window.
- Open the browser again and go to www.dropbox.com
