Popular, but Captur is searched four times as often
If there were a championship for the cheapest SUVs, the Dacia Duster has held that title for a few years now. It falls into the ‘subcompact SUV’ category in the B-segment, which is also populated by the Peugeot 2008, the Citroën C3 Aircross, the Nissan Qashqai and the Renault Captur, to which it owes much of its DNA. But how is the Duster doing on the used car market? And, also interesting, to what extent is it inferior to the Renault Captur when it comes to search behavior and interest? In short: yes, but the Duster holds its own.
Cheap, simple, popular
The Dacia Duster has been produced since 2010 and received an extensive makeover in 2017. The second generation Duster was renewed on all fronts and was therefore more mature, although those typical Dacia features remained fully intact. Buyers of standard models do not have to count on a lot of luxury and comfort, or on exciting engines. Instead, you get a five-seater SUV that meets the absolute basic needs of an average motorist. More is possible, but then that other character trait of Dacia is somewhat lost: the price. A Duster is by far the cheapest option if you place it next to the aforementioned competitors.
Duster vs. Captur
much better equipped. You pay more, but you also get considerably more. What do you notice about those differences when you look at the search behavior of the average car buyer on Gaspedal.nl? Well, the Renault Captur is considerably more popular than the Dacia Duster. In 2023, the Captur was searched no less than 1,038,796 times, which is more than four times as many searches as the Duster. A lower price is therefore not a silver lining and many buyers would rather have a little more refinement, luxury and comfort than just a bargain.
Second generation Duster is by far the most popular
The third generation of the Dacia Duster is coming, but for the time being you will only find generations 1 and 2 on the used car market. Of the two, the second generation, from 2018 onwards, is doing the best. Construction year 2018 is the most popular, with 34,508 searches in the Gaspedal.nl system in 2023. The average budget for this car is between €10,000 and €15,000, which gives you the majority of the available used cars. After all, for this money it is a lot easier to drive a relatively new Duster than a competitor from the same year and with the same mileage.
Only the Sandero does it even better
Great news! The Sandero is still the most popular Dacia of all, with 228,692 specific searches in 2023. However, the Duster follows closely behind, with 221,242 searches. These two will still be fighting for the top position for a while and they have little to fear from, for example, the Dacia Logan MCV. It has only been searched 59,067 times in 2023, while it is also an excellent family car.
