Sometimes it can help to restart the program you are currently using – regardless of the software. Another quick fix is to make Windows forget what it had to drag just before. The system may still be processing an older request. To do this, open the Explorer and select any folder or file with your left mouse button. Hold down that button and also press the Esc key on your keyboard. Now try dragging a file again.

While we’re on the subject of the Explorer: otherwise, restart it. Fortunately, that’s how it was. click with you right click on Start and select task management. Click on the tab Details (maybe you have to click at the bottom first More detail click) and search explorer.exe on.

Select now, with you right mouse buttonexplorer.exe and choose End task. The desktop will now disappear, but that is normal. Now click on the top left File and choose Run new task. type explorer.exe and press Enter. Now the Explorer restarts.

By the way, do you use a separate program with which you set up and / or update the mouse? Then check if there is an update ready.

Check Windows Mouse Drivers

If the above options don’t work, then it’s time to check the mouse drivers. click with you right mouse button on Start and select task management. Double click on Mice and other pointing devices and right click on your mouse driver(s). Then choose Update driver and then choose the automatic option. If an update is available, Windows will install it automatically.

We also have the System File Checker at our disposal, should the above option not offer a solution either. Earlier we wrote an extensive article about SFC, what you do with it and how it works. Read this article carefully if you want to get started. You can also go through the Command Promptwhich opens as administrator with the right mouse button, try the following commands:

  • Dism/Online/Cleanup-Image0/ScanHealth
  • Dism/Online/Cleanup-Image/RestoreHealth

After both or one of these two scans, the problems should really be solved. Dragging still doesn’t work on Windows and you still have the Command Prompt open, then type in the following line of text: msdt.exe -id DeviceDiagnostic. Press Enterso that a separate window pops up: the hardware and device troubleshooter.

In this window click on Advanced options and add Apply solutions automatically a check mark. Finally click Next one and things should work as before.
