Get rid of X: this is how you bring Twitter back to your iPhone

Do you also find the icon of X so ugly? This way you will get the iconic Twitter bird back on your iPhone.

From X to Twitter

On a random Sunday, Elon Musk decided it was done with Twitter, as the platform has been renamed X. This change was initially limited to the logo of the website, but slowly all things that remind you of the old Twitter are being removed. The app icon has also been changed.

Gone is the blue icon with the iconic bird in it. Instead, there is now a black icon with a white X on your screen. If you’re into minimalism, you’re bound to love the tweak. Still, the icon is an eyesore for others. They just want their Twitter back. Good news: you can!

This is how you replace the X icon with a Twitter icon

Changing the icon of apps is so easy in iOS, and that also applies to X / Twitter. You use Apple’s Assignments app for this. You create a shortcut to the app, but with a different icon. That’s how it works.

  1. Download the Twitter icon you want to use. You can use this version that we have prepared for you.

  2. Open Apple’s Assignments app.

  3. Tap the blue plus sign in the top right corner to set up a new command.

  4. Tap “Add task” and search for “Open app” to add it.

  5. Then tap the ‘Open app’ that you added on ‘app’ and search for ‘X’

  6. Now tap the Share button at the bottom of the screen and choose ‘Add to home screen’.

  7. In this new screen you can set ‘Name and symbol for home screen’. As a name, type in ‘Twitter’. Tap the icon to choose an icon and finish with ‘Add’. Tap Done and check your home screen to see the new icon.

The best part is that you can replace all the icons on your iPhone this way. You don’t have to choose a normal icon as an image, because you can also set photos from your album. You just have to remove the old app from your home screen (so that it is only in the app library) and put the new shortcut in its place.

More personalization on your home screen

An icon isn’t the only way you can customize your home screen. You can also get creative with widgets and you can hide apps and pages on your home screen.
