At Auto Review we always have to chuckle at the name Renault Kadjar. Because in 2015, Renault wrote with dry eyes in a press release: “Kadjar is a playful combination of the words Kad and Jar.” Do you know those words? We’ve never heard of it. Anyway, apparently the composition is not fun enough, because the next Renault Kadjar is called Austral.
To indicate what kind of bleating we find in press releases. The Renault piece about “a playful combination of the words Kad and Jar” was followed by the following. “The spelling and the pronunciation [van Kadjar – red.] give an exotic and adventurous feeling. The initials emphasize the robust character of the Renault Kadjar.”
Could the name Renault Austral come from Australia?
With the new Renault Austral, the marketers of the French brand have held back a little more. One Sylvia Dos Santos – who goes by the rather bizarre title Model-naming Strategy Manager – says about the name: “Austral evokes the vibrancy and warmth of the southern hemisphere. The name invites you to discover, which is ideal for an SUV. .”
Successor Renault Kadjar will be launched at the beginning of 2022
And we will discover with the new Renault Austral: the parking lot of the Albert Heijn, the road for the primary school of the children, the traffic jams on the A1 towards Amsterdam, and so on. It’s all possible from the spring of 2022, when the Kadjar successor is launched.
Design elements of the Renault Mégane E-Tech Electric
The prototype in these photos is still heavily wrapped in camouflage foil, but we can already say that the Austral will have the same design cues as the Renault Mégane E-Tech Electric. It is on the same platform as the Nissan Qashqai and is available as a mild hybrid, hybrid and plug-in hybrid.
