iOS 18.5 is out: These are the new functions (and so you can update)

There is a new update available for your iPhone. You can find the update by going to ‘Settings> General> Software update’. There you can download iOS 18.5 immediately. Can’t find the update? Then you have to try again later. Not everyone gets the update at the same time.

We have to be honest: there are not many new functions in the update. But there are still a few small innovations. We put them under each other.

1. New functions for mail

Thanks to Apple Intelligence, Mail has already received a few smart new gadgets, and iOS 18.5 adds a little extra. For example, you now see a small image of the sender with every email in your inbox – also known as ‘contact photos’.

Don’t you want that? No worries, you can simply disable those photos. Previously you had to dive into the settings of your iPhone, but that is getting a bit easier now. The function can be turned off immediately in iOS 18.5. You do that by tapping the three dots with an open mailbox. Then you remove the check mark at ‘Show Contact Photos’.

Unfortunately we do not yet have the position in the Netherlands. So you don’t have much to do this feature yet. But if it also comes to the iPhone here, then it is nice that this option is immediately available.

2. Extra background

It is not often that Apple adds new system backgrounds to iOS, but in recent years it has happened on certain annual occasions, such as Pride. That is why there will be a new pride background in iOS 18.5. It is a colorful new option that you see above.

3. Satellite features on the iPhone 13

If you wanted to use satellite functions in iOS, you always needed an iPhone 14 or newer. That changes with iOS 18.5. You will also receive the satellite functions on an iPhone 13, 13 Mini, 13 Pro or 13 Pro Max.

4. Buy content easier in the Apple TV app

In iOS 18.5, Apple expands a handy function that first only worked with TVOS: ‘Buy with iPhone’. From now on you can also make purchases on TVs and streaming devices from other brands via the Apple TV app, simply by attaching them to your iPhone. Whether you want to try a new streaming service or rent or buy a movie – it’s easier than ever, even if you don’t use Apple TV.

5. Information about AppleCare+

A small adjustments is that information about AppleCare+ has now been given a more clearer place. With AppleCare+ your iPhone is insured for repair or replacement. That means that you are well covered even in accidents.

6. Error solutions, bug fixes and more

Of course, many small things are also solved in the background. With this update, for example, various bug fixes and small updates have been implemented.
