MacBook Air M3 addresses the biggest criticism of its predecessor
In this case, more speed has nothing to do with the processor or RAM, but with the SSD. Repair website iFixit shared a video of the base model 13-inch MacBook Air with the M3 chip and 256 GB of storage. This shows that at first glance not much has changed compared to the MacBook Air M2.
However, there is also an important change and that is that the new MacBook Air is equipped with two 128 GB flash storage chips. This change delivers significantly faster SSD speeds compared to the predecessor, which only has a single 256GB storage chip. The SSD of the two chips can read and write at the same time. First test confirms more speed
Youtube Channel Max Tech ran the Blackmagic Disk Speed ​​Test tool with a file size of 5 GB. He did this on both the M2 and M3 models of the 13-inch MacBook Air with 256 GB of storage and 8 GB of RAM. It showed that the SSD in the M3 model achieved up to 33 percent faster write speeds and up to 82 percent faster read speeds than the SSD in the M2 model. Watch Max Tech’s video below.
Apple’s decision to switch to one 256 GB chip for the predecessor of the MacBook Air M3 was the biggest criticism of the M2 version. This is despite the fact that the average user probably won’t even notice the slower SSD speeds when performing everyday tasks. But fortunately, Apple has now restored the SSD speeds of the M1 version with the M3 version.
Apple still sells the MacBook Air M2, but you can only choose the 13-inch version. In the Netherlands you pay 1199 euros, while the company sells the MacBook Air M3 for only 100 euros more. So keep in mind that the M2 model has lower SSD speeds. Even though not everyone notices this in practice, it is still worth mentioning.
