macOS Sonoma is out! These new features are coming to your Mac

It’s time for an update again! With macOS Sonoma, useful features are once again coming to your Mac. This is new!

Apple releases macOS Sonoma

Apple has released macOS Sonoma! With the update it finally becomes possible to add widgets to the desktop on your Mac. In addition, Safari will gain useful (and secure) functions and Notes will become a lot more extensive. There will be no major update to your Mac with macOS Sonoma, but Apple is still launching a number of fun and useful features. We have listed the most important functions for you.

Widgets now also available on the Mac

Apple has not only overhauled widgets in iOS 17, widgets also play an important role in macOS Sonoma. For the first time, you can pin widgets to the desktop of your Mac. In macOS Ventura, you could still find widgets on your Mac in the notification center, but they could not be displayed on your screen by default. This is finally possible in the new macOS version.

Widgets from apps such as Photos, the Weather app and the calendar can soon be pinned to the desktop of your Mac. Also great: you don’t have to install the widget apps on your Mac in macOS Sonoma. If you only have the application on your iPhone, you can already display the widget on your Mac. Your iPhone must be near the Mac and connected via Bluetooth.

Gaming in Game Mode with macOS Sonoma

A new feature in macOS Sonoma is game mode. In this mode, the game you’re playing takes top priority on your Mac, making games run much smoother in macOS Sonoma. In addition, game mode removes the delay that normally occurs when you connect a device via Bluetooth. So your AirPods and wireless controllers are no longer delayed.

The new Game Mode works with all games that support the Mac. And there are more and more of them, because a new series of new games are coming to the Mac, including Death Stranding. This game will soon be available for pre-order in the App Store for Mac. It is expected that many more games will follow for your Mac, especially now that game mode is available in macOS Sonoma.

Updates for Safari

Just like in iOS 17, Safari in macOS Sonoma has been significantly expanded. These are mainly new safety features. For example, the update makes it possible to secure the incognito tabs with Face ID or Touch ID. This way you can be sure that these pages are not opened accidentally. It also becomes more difficult for websites to collect your data and you can create profiles in Safari.

Do you often use certain websites, but do they not have an app? Then there is good news, because with macOS Sonoma it is possible to create web apps from the pages you often visit. This way you can create an application from your favorite website, which you can add to the desktop or dock of your Mac. You don’t have to search for the web page every time, but you can get there with one click.

More new features in macOS Sonoma

In addition, more new features are coming to your Mac with macOS Sonoma. This makes it easier (and more fun) to give a presentation online with new functions for the camera. During a video call, you can add effects to your image and display a presentation behind you. This works with apps such as FaceTime and Zoom.

Also nice: macOS Sonoma brings cool screensavers to your Mac. These are slow motion videos of various locations around the world, such as the Grand Canyon, Monument Valley and of course the hills in Sonoma. A slow video of these landscapes will play whenever your Mac(Book) is on the lock screen and no activity is in progress.
