OnePlus Nord 5 vs iPhone 16th: these are the most important differences

OnePlus recently released the Nord 5, a middle class that we can best compare with the iPhone 16th. That’s how they relate.

The new OnePlus Nord 5 is available from 419 euros. That is a bit less than the € 592 of the iPhone 16th. The question therefore arises whether the iPhone 16th is better than the OnePlus Nord 5. We put them next to each other.

Housing

With 163.4 x 77 x 8.1 mm, the OnePlus Nord 5 is clearly a bit larger than the iPhone 16th (146.7 x 71.5 x 7.8 mm). A logical consequence of this is that the weight is also slightly higher (211 g compared to 167 g). Just like the iPhone, the OnePlus has a glass front and back, but the frame is made of plastic. On the other hand, the iPhone contains an aluminum frame. In our opinion, aluminum is the better choice, also because it is better in removing heat than plastic.

Another difference is the water resistance of both housings. The OnePlus has an IP65 certification, the iPhone an IP68 certification. That means the following: IP65 offers protection against splash water, IP68 offers protection against immersion in water. The latter is of course nice when you unexpectedly drop your iPhone into the water. Apple does not recommend swimming with your iPhone.

Screen

It is obvious that the larger smartphone also has the largest screen. That is also the case here: the OnePlus Nord 5 has a screen of 6.83 inches. The screen of the iPhone 16th stays at 6.1 inches. That is of course not better or worse, it’s just a matter of what you like.

A higher resolution is in principle better. In that respect, the OnePlus scores with a resolution of 1272 x 2800 pixels just a bit better than the iPhone 16th (1170 x 2532 pixels). The pixel density (pixels per inch) is slightly higher with the iPhone (although the difference is negligible): 450 ppi compared to 457 ppi.

Camera

The camera of the OnePlus Nord 5 wins when we look at the amount of megapixels. The wide -angle camera (main camera) of the OnePlus has 50 megapixels and that of the iPhone comes to 48. The camera of the iPhone does have a larger aperture (f/1.6 relative to f/1.8), which ensures that more light comes in. The OnePlus also has an ultra -wide corner camera of 8 megapixels and an aperture of f/2.2.

Just like the main camera, the selfie camera of the OnePlus also has 50 megapixels. That of the iPhone has to do with 12.

Performance

Although the performance is particularly dependent on the processor and the main memory, making a good comparison is very difficult. This is mainly because iPhones generally deliver better performance with less fast hardware. The reason for this is that Apple makes both the hardware and the software and therefore perfectly tunes together.

The OnePlus has in any case an Octacore processor: 1x 3.0 GHz, 4x 2.8 GHz and 3x 2.0 GHz. The iPhone has a hexacore processor: 2x 4.04 GHz and 4x 2.20 GHz. Those are less cores, but the 2x 4.04 GHz is a lot faster than the 1x 3.0 GHz of the OnePlus. Add to that the better coordination mentioned above and it will be clear that the iPhone is 16th faster than the OnePlus Nord 5.

The OnePlus has a bit more choice in terms of amount of memory. You have the following options: 256 GB storage space with 8 GB of memory, 256 GB storage space with 12 GB of memory and 512 GB storage space with 12 GB of memory. The iPhone 16th always has 8 GB memory, you can only opt for 128 GB, 256 GB or 512 GB.

Battery

The same applies to this as for the performance: Apple devices usually know for longer with a less powerful battery. The OnePlus has the most powerful battery, which is also logical given the larger size: 5200 mAh. The iPhone 16th has a battery with a capacity of 4005 mAh.

It may be clear that both devices have a powerful battery with which you can easily reach the end of the day. With the iPhone 16th you can watch video for up to 26 hours. Whether you also get that with the OnePlus Nord 5, we have unfortunately not been able to test it yet.

Conclusion: OnePlus Nord 5 vs iPhone 16th

The OnePlus Nord 5 and the iPhone 16th are great mid -sized players with an excellent battery life, which are certainly suitable for everyday tasks. Yet there are also clear differences. For example, the main camera of the OnePlus Nord 5 despite the 50 megapixel is a lot less good than that of the iPhone 16th. There is no ultra -wide angle camera there, but in practice that is actually not a real loss. In terms of performance, the iPhone also scores a bit better than the OnePlus. Thanks to the aluminum frame, it is also a bit more durable and can also lose its heat a bit better.

However, if you are looking for a cheap, large smartphone with a long battery life for home-garden-and-kitchen use with which you are not going to do anything special and if you don’t find a good camera that important, then the OnePlus Nord 5 is not a bad choice. You can then save around 170 euros.
