Productive clipboard management with ClipboardFusion

Clipboard managers make it so much easier to reuse what you’ve copied. ClipboardFusion goes one step further and makes sure everything you’ve placed in the clipboard with Ctrl+C is cleverly processed before you press Ctrl+V. That is copying with extras.

A program like Become has its own clipboard manager, but a real clipboard tool like ClipboardFusion can do much more. The application not only keeps history but can also remove text formatting. With this, the pasted text automatically takes over the formatting of the text into which it is pasted. ClipboardFusion can run macros, save images, replace clipboard text, and more. In addition, the application integrates into Windows, so that you can also use the clipboard management in your mail program or in any other application.

Go for free

You download ClipboardFusion at www.clipboardfusion.com. You open the exe file, choose Dutch as the language for the installer and you accept the conditions. The program itself does not support Dutch. After that, the setup proposes to start the program automatically with Windows. As a result, the app is always active in the background. If you don’t want that, uncheck this option.

The first time you can use the paid version for free for 30 days, after that the tool automatically switches to the free edition. In this article we write about the possibilities of the free version.

Free vs Paid

On the ClipboardFusion homepage you can compare the possibilities of the free version with the paid edition (15 dollars). The main advantage of the Pro edition is the ability to synchronize the contents and settings of this application with other computers. Do you already know that you do not want to switch to the paid version and are you still in the 30-day trial period? Then you better go straight to the tab License Key by Settings the button Change to Free Version to use.

The free version has enough to enjoy the program.

Institutions

After installation, the program opens the English setting window. The default settings are not that useful and you can better adjust them. If you want to go back to this window later, you have to right-click on the icon in the system tray and Settings select.

In the tab Options you can indicate again whether or not the tool is allowed to start with Windows. By default, the option is Show Clipboard Preview Popup (for HTML Colors and Images) checked. This will give you continuous pop-ups when copying. That quickly irritates. It is therefore better to remove the check mark.

You prefer to disable the pop-up notifications.

Clipboard Manager

To get up and running quickly, open from the Windowssystem tray right-click the Clipboard Manager. Everything you copy in an application will automatically appear in the tab History. The ten most recently added items are given a number there.

At the bottom of the Clipboard Manager you can read which application is active, so that you know in which application you can paste the item. Pasting can be done in different ways. For example, you double-click the selected item in the Clipboard Manager. Use the arrow key to navigate to the item and press Enter. Or you can type the number of one of the top ten items.

If you right-click in Clipboard Manager, you can select the Type Text Selecting. That’s a gimmick. This makes it seem as if an invisible hand is typing the copied text letter after letter instead of pasting it all at once.

It is possible to place other programs at the top of the Clipboard Manager.

History

Most people use Ctrl+C very often and this causes the tab to run History quickly full. In Settings Bee Clipboard History you can indicate the maximum number of items that are saved in this list. By default, this is set to 100.

When you copy more items, the oldest ones are deleted. You also determine how long the items are kept. If you don’t change anything, ClipboardFusion will hold the copied items for five days. At the bottom left of the tab History Do you recognize a trash can, you use it to delete the entire history in one go.

You decide how long ClipboardFusion keeps copied items.

Pin up

You can also use the tool to save greetings, canned replies, recurring text, or logos so you always have them to hand. To do this, right-click on the item in the tab History and you use the command Pin. This puts the item in the tab pinned, so it won’t be deleted automatically.

From the system tray you can right-click Local Pinned Items to open. This is a submenu where you can quickly find the first ten Local Pinned items brings out. If the list of pinned items is longer, select the top command here Show Local Pinned Items Tab. in the tab pinned it is also possible to edit the name of each item. That makes it easier to find items.

Preview

When you hover over the various copied elements in the Clipboard Manager, you will see the contents of the item. In addition, the name of the program into which you copied the text or image will also appear in the preview box. You will also see the date and time when the item was added to ClipboardFusion. With the right mouse button it is also possible to edit the content of a text item. Select the command edit, after which you can edit the text.

hot keys

ClipboardFusion works even smoother if you use keyboard shortcuts. In the Settings select you HotKeys. This will bring up a list of a lot of actions for which you can set a keyboard shortcut yourself. For example, do you want to see all pinned items with such a hotkey? Then select at Actions the part Show Local Pinned Menu. A pop-up will then appear in which you define the hotkey to activate this component.

It is very easy to define keyboard shortcuts.

scrubbing

When you copy a formatted text fragment from a document or a web page, ClipboardFusion automatically strips it of all formatting. This feature is called scrubbing. You can set the app so that this scrubbing only happens when, for example, you press Ctrl+C twice in a row.

You can do this by right-clicking on the ClipboardFusion icon in the system tray. Then you go to Trigger Command Settings. Here you have the choice between Disabled, Enable on Copy, Enable on Double Copy and Enabled Except on Double-Copy. Of Double Copy means the program press Ctrl+C twice.

triggers

ClipboardFusion uses so-called triggers that adjust the copied text. In Settings at the tab triggers there is already one that removes the formatting. At the same time, the white space before and after the text is removed and line breaks are placed.

If you double click on this trigger, you can decide on the left whether it should be enabled or not. Bee event leave you the option Trigger Command Received to stand. That means that the trigger depends on a particular statement.

Bee Actions set what should happen when the trigger is activated. You can disable a trigger that you are not using without deleting it. Then in the previous window you change the Trigger Command Setting in Trigger command disabled.

You determine the actions that should follow when a trigger becomes active.

Copy and Replace

You can also use the trigger function to automatically replace certain text. Suppose you are working on an html document and you want the code <b> replace with <strong>. In that case, click in the tab triggers on the arrow of the button Add and select your Text Replace.

Macro support

The power user will certainly appreciate the app’s built-in macro function. In the beginning, the tab is macros in the Settings still empty. But with the button Download premade Macros you get sixty ready-made scripts that automate all kinds of small assignments, without having to write any code yourself.

There are scripts to convert decimal numbers to hex, to save copied images to the hard drive, to post a link to Facebook, and to write copied text to the hard drive as a separate file. You select the desired script and click on Install Macro(s). Then the installed macros appear ready to use in ClipboardFusion.
