Samsung is releasing more information about its One Ui 4.0 update and Android 12. The company is emphasizing personalization and privacy this year with the new software version. We get to see screenshots of the update and Samsung discusses the novelties.
Samsung OneUI 4.0
In the Netherlands and Belgium we may miss the beta version of One UI 4.0, but Samsung already wants to give us a look behind the scenes. There are a lot of new things on the way again, and most of the features this time have to do with control over privacy and possibilities to make the software shell look the way you want.
With One UI 4.0 you can customize the look and functionality of your smartphone in countless ways. You have access to tools to set the home screen, icons, notifications, wallpapers and many more functions to your taste. You can also adjust the design of widgets: from visibility to appearance. Samsung comes with its own take on Google’s design changes with Material You, and we already got to see what that should look like in a few leaked screenshots.
Also part of personalization is Samsung’s AR Emoji that can play an important role on your smartphone. They can be placed on different parts of the interface.
Privacy Indicators and Dashboard
In One UI 4.0, Samsung will also take Google’s new privacy features to heart. With the Privacy dashboard you can immediately see which apps use the microphone and camera and when they do so. You can also view all your app permissions from the last seven days, rather than just those from the last 24 hours.
The privacy indicators of Android 12 also get a place in One UI 4.0, which elements in the interface with which Samsung can show when an app uses the microphone or camera. You can then also deny those apps access.
When will One UI 4.0 be released?
Samsung last year promised to release One UI 3.0 for the Galaxy S20 series before the end of December 2020. The company has fulfilled that promise. In December, the smartphones in the Netherlands and Belgium received the update. So we hope that Samsung keeps a similar schedule this year, so that around Christmas and New Years, Android 12 will run on the S21 series.
