Shell wants to add 300,000 European charging points by 2025

NewMotion, a major provider of charging points, now has 200,000 European charging points in its network. According to parent company Shell, another 300,000 should have been added by 2025.

A modest party will probably have been celebrated at NewMotion’s headquarters in Amsterdam, as Shell’s subsidiary has put its 200,000th public charging point into use in Europe. The first 100,000 charging points were put into use between 2009 and 2019 and now such a number has been added in a much shorter time. Things must go even faster in the coming years. According to NewMotion, Shell hopes to include the 500,000th charging point in the network by 2025. So, 300,000 must be added in about four years.

New partnerships, among other things, must contribute to this expansion. For example, NewMotion concluded agreements with existing charging network operators in various European countries, which means that charging points of these parties are also added to NewMotion’s network. The expansion that is planned for the coming years is therefore the result of both the installation of new charging points and the inclusion of more existing points in the network.
