Sync playlists to Shazam: now also with Apple Music and Spotify

The music recognition app Shazam on your iPhone now works really well with Apple Music and Spotify. Music you’ve discovered is automatically synced and put into an Apple Music or Spotify playlist. This way you can immediately listen to all your newly ‘discovered’ music.

The Shazam app makes it easy to find out the name (and singer) of a song. You start the app, hold your iPhone near the sound source and wait a while. After that, the name of the song will appear quite quickly in a notification on your iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch.

Do you want to listen to the songs afterwards? Then you can let Apple Music (or Spotify) automatically create a playlist with all your discovered music tracks. This list is then automatically updated with the new songs from Shazam.

Sometimes Apple Music will automatically ask if you want to create the playlist. Not getting this option? Then you have to turn it on manually. You do that in the following way.

  1. Open the Shazam app;

  2. Swipe the window up and tap the gear;

  3. Tap Apple Music (or Spotify) and choose connect;

  4. Turn on the ‘Sync Shazams to Apple Music’ feature.

Now when you recognize a song with Shazam, the songs are automatically added to the ‘My Shazam’ playlist in Apple Music or Spotify.

Recognize music without Shazam app

When you hear a song and you want to know its name, you don’t necessarily have to use the Shazam app. Your iPhone also has the feature built into Control Center. Don’t have that option? Then you can turn on the music recognition function in the following way.

  • Tap ‘Settings’;
  • Go to ‘Control panel’;
  • Scroll down and tap the green dot next to ‘Music Recognition’.

The music recognition function can now be found in the control panel. To open Control Center on an iPhone with Face ID, swipe down in the top right corner. With an iPhone with Touch ID, swipe up from the bottom of the screen.

Also nice: when you hold the finger on the music recognition button in the control panel, you get to see all the songs you’ve ever discovered (up to 100). These songs are now also synced across all your devices.

To listen to a playlist in Apple Music or Spotify with all your discovered Shazam music, you must have the Shazam app on your iPhone. It is not possible to import the songs from music recognition.
