Do you already know the eSim? iPhones have been supporting it for a while and Apple is rumored to be switching completely to this electronic SIM card with the iPhone 15. We tell you all about it and where to go for the best deals.
What are the advantages of eSim?
An eSim is built into your iPhone and you upload a profile of the provider you choose. It contains your SIM only bundle and data. Then you can – just as you are used to with a physical SIM card – call and use the internet as much as you want.
iPhones have supported eSim since the iPhone XS (Max) came out. As a result, your iPhone even became dual SIM, because it was possible to use both an eSIM and a physical SIM card. Apple is reportedly now working on an iPhone 15 that only uses eSim. Fortunately, not much changes in terms of use, but there are a number of advantages.
For example, waiting for the postman to bring your new SIM card is now over and switching between SIM cards is therefore easier. You scan a QR code and the new data is loaded on your smartphone. An eSim does not break and losing it is no longer an option. The chance of fraud with an eSim is therefore smaller than with a physical SIM card.
Everything has advantages and disadvantages and so does the arrival of eSim. Activation works by entering a code and that code can therefore also be retrieved by malicious parties. As a result, they can run off with your SIM – and telephone number. Thanks to good security, however, the chance of this is, fortunately, limited. Think of strong passwords, password managers and two-step verification.
The best eSim offers of the moment
Do you want to get rid of your physical SIM card now? Then it is useful to find out whether your provider offers this way of connecting. The range in the Netherlands of providers with eSim subscriptions is not large. In fact, there are only four. T-Mobile was the first to work with eSim, followed by Simyo, Vodafone and KPN. We have listed the best offers from these providers for you.
1. Simyo: Advantageous eSim Deals
Simyo uses the reliable KPN network. The provider also has a wide range of bundles. From all MBs to 15GB of data: you choose the bundle that suits your smartphone use. There are also two flavors for callers: unlimited or 200 minutes. You can read more information about eSim at Simyo on their site.
Simyo is currently holding Super Sale. You will therefore receive a discount on many bundles. Their cheapest bundle gives you 2GB of internet and 200 calling minutes or texts, which includes the Super Sale discount. 7 euros per month pays for. However, you can now take out the bundle with 12GB completely cheaply, because you get it for the same price as the bundle with 10GB data. You also get extra benefits if you have KPN Thuis.
2. T-Mobile: easily adjust bundle
If you like flexibility, T-Mobile is a good fit for you. The provider lets you adjust your data limit every month. For example, if you are on the road a lot for a month, it might be wise to increase your amount of data for a month.
The smallest bundle that you take out via T-Mobile offers you 1GB of data with 120 calling minutes. For that will be monthly 13.50 euros debited from your account. As a T-Mobile Home customer, however, you can take out it cheaper. You will receive a monthly discount of 2.50 euros and 2GB of extra data as a gift.
3. Vodafone: advantageous with Runnersdeals
With a SIM-only subscription from Vodafone, you get standard access to 5G if your iPhone supports it. You can choose between large or small bundles, depending on your smartphone use. There is also a bundle where you can share data with your family or friends. Read more about eSim on the Vodafone site.
Until 29 May you can still benefit from the Runnersdeals at Vodafone. You can temporarily take out a SIM-only bundle at a cheaper price and the provider will waive the connection costs. The cheapest bundle costs now 15 euros per month. For this you get 2.5 GB data and 150 calling minutes. If you have a Ziggo internet subscription at home, you will receive another up to 7.50 euro discount per month and double the number of MBs.
4. KPN: reliable network and Combi advantage
KPN has a wide choice of bundles. If you don’t use the internet, you can opt for no data with your sim only or, as a fanatical internet user, go for unlimited internet. And if you say KPN, you say reliable network. Thanks to Combivoordeel, customers save even more.
You share MBs with each other, but you also receive a discount of up to EUR 7.50 per month, a free TV package and an entertainment discount of EUR 5. The cheapest eSim subscription that KPN offers with internet gives you 3GB of data and 150 calling minutes. The provider writes for that monthly 16.50 euros from your account. As a KPN customer, that is 14 euros per month.
