Speed difference between old and new iPhones
In a new video from the YouTube channel PhoneBuff you see how much faster iPhones are getting every year. So you not only see the speed difference between the latest new iPhone and its predecessor, but also between previous predecessors. The video compares the iPhone 17 Pro Max, iPhone 16 Pro Max, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 14 Pro Max, iPhone 13 Pro Max and the iPhone 12 Pro Max.
You’ve probably seen a PhoneBuff video in which robotic arms move across smartphone screens to compare how different models perform the same tasks. While you could say these tests aren’t exactly scientific, they do have something that is entertaining and eye-opening. Multiple generations
In this latest video, PhoneBuff conducts what it says is its largest and most intensive speed test to date. It compares six iPhone Pro Max generations, from the 12 to the 17. The experiment is an interesting way to visualize how much each device has improved or even degraded in performance year over year. And also to show how the annual speed difference accumulates over several generations.
The test involves processing images, loading apps, playing games and performing more demanding workflows such as photo and video editing. The video shows that performance improvements are not as easy as you might think. For example, the iPhone 13 Pro Max holds its own quite well against newer models, even though the iPhone 17 Pro Max ultimately wins hands down. Either way, it’s interesting to see the speed difference between the iPhones and definitely worth a few minutes of your time!
