Apple has started developing iOS 27 and the update reportedly brings five useful features to your iPhone. This is them!
iOS 27
In 2026, iOS 27 will be the software update for the iPhone. Apple has now started developing iOS 27, which brings a series of new features to your iPhone. Rumors have given us an idea of the first new features in iOS 27. Are you curious about what changes are likely to come to your iPhone in 2026? We have listed the first improvements of iOS 27 for you!
1. Apple Maps
In iOS 27, Apple focuses on improving your iPhone’s satellite connection. You can now only use this to send messages in emergency situations, but a useful function will be added in 2026. Apple Maps will support satellite connection in iOS 27, so you can load routes even without a mobile connection. This way you can always find your way to your destination, even if there is no mobile coverage.

2. Send photos via satellite connection
iOS 27 gives you more options when sending messages via your iPhone’s satellite connection. Currently, you’re limited to sharing text messages if you don’t have cell service. From iOS 27 you can also send photos via the device’s satellite connection. This feature likely only works in Apple’s Messages app, so you won’t be able to send photos via WhatsApp, for example, if you don’t have a cellular connection for the time being.

3. Better range in iOS 27
Connecting to satellites becomes easier in iOS 27. In iOS 26 and earlier, you still need a direct view of the open sky to make a satellite connection. So you have to stand outside to connect your iPhone to satellites. This will change in 2026, because from iOS 27 your iPhone will also support satellite connection indoors. This means you can be reached in even more places, which is especially important in emergency situations.
4. Satellite via 5G
The fact that Apple is going to improve the satellite connection of your iPhone will soon also be noticeable in the mobile connection of the device. Apple is working on satellite support for 5G, which will allow cell towers to use satellites to expand mobile coverage. This means that you will soon have access to the 5G network in more places, which will be a major advantage, especially in sparsely populated areas.

5. Third Party Apps
With iOS 27, your iPhone’s satellite connection gets many new features. It is now only possible for Apple applications to use this connection. From iOS 27, third-party apps will also have access to the satellite connection, because Apple gives developers the option to build this connection into their apps. Now you still have to use the Messages app for the satellite connection, so later this can also be other applications.
