In 2025 Watchos 12 is the most important update for the Apple Watch. With the new software version, a series of new functions will come to the smartwatch. In addition, we probably see new dials in Watchos 12.
That is not all, because Apple may also work on a renewed design for Watchos 12. According to the usually reliable Apple connoisseur Mark Gurman, elements from Visionos are coming to the operating system for the Apple Watch. In Watchos 12 we see more transparent frames, adapted buttons and new symbols with the apps. The software on your Apple Watch looks very different later this year, provided that your smartwatch has support for Watchos 12.
These Apple Watches get Watchos 12
When publishing an update, regularly devices fall out, because they no longer have support for the new software version. According to rumors, this is not the case this year, all devices with Watchos 11 can probably update to Watchos 12. At the moment the Apple Watch Series 6 and newer support for Watchos 11. These generations can update later this year to Watchos 12. These are the following models:

Apple Intelligence may be coming to Watchos for the first time this year. The new software is already available on the iPhone, iPad and Mac (book), but is still missing at the Apple Watch. That will probably change with Watchos 12, although not all Apple Watches get the new software. It is expected that Apple Intelligence is only available at the Apple Watch Series 11 and the Apple Watch Ultra 3. The other devices should do without Apple Intelligence.
Release of Watchos 12
We don’t have to wait long for Watchos 12, because Apple presents the update during the annual WWDC. The WWDC will take place this year from 9 June to 13 June, which week the most important software updates of 2025 will be unveiled. Sets Monday 9 June 2025 So stuck in your agenda, because Apple Watchos 12 announces that evening. The presentation probably starts at 7 p.m. Dutch time.
Later that evening the first test version of Watchos 12 for developers will be released. Only a few months later the final update is released, which happens in September.
