The release of Apple’s first foldable iPhone will (hopefully) happen this year. But what are the specifications of the iPhone Fold?

Apple itself has not officially announced anything yet, but based on several rumors we are almost certain. According to Apple analyst Jeff Pu, Apple’s first foldable iPhone (the iPhone Fold) will have a striking combination of well-known iPhone functions and iPad-like features.
So think of it as an iPhone that you open into something closer to an iPad mini. But what other specifications can be found on the iPhone Fold?
Two screens
The screen is the big crowd puller. The iPhone Fold has two displays, a large inner screen of 7.8 inches (opened) and a smaller screen on the outside of 5.3 inches for small things such as apps, navigation or checking your email without having to unfold the device.
No Face ID, but Touch ID
According to rumors, Apple is making a striking choice. Instead of Face ID (facial recognition), the iPhone Fold only gets Touch ID. So you unlock it with your fingerprint.
Fast chip and more RAM
Under the hood, the iPhone Fold has many of the same specifications that you also see in the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro (Max). Pu expects an A20 Pro chip (which is faster and more economical) and 12GB of RAM.
The latter is especially important because Apple wants to have more and more AI tasks done on the device itself, without everything having to go to the cloud. Think of a Siri that responds faster and can do more, and smart functions that run on your phone.

And then the cameras. At the back there will be a dual camera system with two 48MP lenses. An 18MP camera is expected for selfies and video calling, which you can use when the device is closed and when you have opened it.
Materials and release
In terms of materials, Apple will probably opt for a mix of titanium and aluminum. And according to rumors, the device should be released in September 2026 together with the iPhone 18 Pro models.
