This was 2022: the most wanted new cars

AutoWeek.nl is of course not only your favorite source for car news, but also the place to find all possible information about your next car. If we limit ourselves to brand new cars, these are the ten most sought-after models.

The light gray search bar at the top of this page is a very important one. If you search for a make and model in it, you end up in a huge database full of specifications (Carbase), tests, videos, private lease rates and so on. In Carbase it is very easy to distinguish between all cars and all new cars, by simply ticking the ‘new cars’ box. In that category, these ten models were most often searched by visitors to this site in the past year:

  1. Kia Niro
  2. Volvo XC40
  3. BMW 3 Series
  4. Kia Sportage
  5. BMW X1
  6. Ford Focus
  7. Hyundai Tucson
  8. Volkswagen Golf
  9. Opel Astra
  10. Kia EV6

The first observation: of course there is quite a bit of overlap with the sales figures. The Kia Niro will end in second or third place in the Dutch sales ranking in 2022, the Volvo XC40 is currently fifth and the Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage and Ford Focus are also rapidly flying out of Dutch showrooms.

However, this applies much less to some of the models. The BMW 3-series is still quite popular in its category, but it always ends up higher on these kinds of online lists than in the sales lists. The same more or less applies to the BMW X1 and, surprisingly, also to the Volkswagen Golf and Opel Astra. Those cars are not (anymore) as popular as you might think. Finally, the Kia EV6 does not surprise us: with a 28th place on the sales ranking, it is not mega-popular in an absolute sense, but this EV is ‘hot’ and much discussed.

With this list of attendees, we can also be surprised about the absent ones. Why, for example, is the immensely popular Peugeot 208 not in this list, or the Toyota Aygo? And where is the Skoda Enyaq? Apparently a visit to AutoWeek.nl is not yet a mandatory number for every new car buyer, although we are well on our way.
