It’s no secret that Temu collects as much data from you as possible, but there is a way to shop there safely.
This way you can shop safely at Temu
It is normal for apps to collect, share and process data from your iPhone. This data is used, among other things, for advertisements. But it turns out that Temu’s app does collect a lot of information from your iPhone. For example, Temu not only requests access to your iPhone’s camera, contacts and WiFi network, but also the rights to unlock the device.
When you install an app on your iPhone, you agree to the rights that this app requests from you. In the case of Temu, these are partly rights that you do not want to give at all. Temu also asks for the right to record audio. This is certainly not common with apps from web shops.
Our advice is not to install the Temu app. The safest option is of course to simply not use Temu at all, but there is also a way to shop safely at Temu. We’ll show you how that works.
Delete the Temu app from your iPhone
You can restrict Temu’s permissions by going to the Temu app in Settings under ‘Apps’ and turning off the switches under ‘Give Temu access’. But we recommend just uninstalling the Temu app completely. You can still use Temu safely in the following way:
Open an incognito window (private mode) in Safari or another browser and go to www.temu.com. This way you do not have to agree to the terms of the app and you limit Temu’s rights. Be careful not to log in to Instagram or Facebook, for example, otherwise Temu will have access to those accounts.
If you have iCloud+, make sure you use the ‘Hide my email address’ option when you create an account. In any other case, you will use an email address that you do not use for anything else. Then you can shop safely at Temu.
