Festival apps for your iPhone: Lowlands edition

The festival apps in this list can be used in all kinds of situations, but they all come into their own at a festival. This way you can easily find your tent, you prevent a wet suit with Buienalarm and you know exactly how long you can stay in the sun with the Suns app. At the bottom of this article we have also put a number of official apps from major music festivals in the Netherlands and abroad.

1. Tent Finder

If you camp for a few days at a festival campsite this year, you are guaranteed to lose your tent. Fortunately, with Tent Finder you always know where your temporary sleeping place is. In the app you can put a pin where your tent is, so that you can see where it is at any time in the app. Also handy: Tent Finder also works on the Apple Watch, so you know exactly where to walk in the dark with a glance at your wrist.

2. Periscope

Of course you want to share a good concert with your friends, especially if they couldn’t attend for one reason or another. With Periscope you can start a live stream in no time, which everyone can switch on. Keep in mind that such a stream can empty your data bundle relatively hard, especially if you have purchased a temporary bundle for a foreign festival. Periscope is of course also a good tip for people who don’t go to a festival but want to watch a performance as if they were on the field themselves. Simply switch on at the right time and people are guaranteed to start a live stream.

3. Find my friends

With Find My Friends, the iPhone has a handy built-in app if you want to know where your fellow festival goers are. Before you know it you have lost each other, and with this app you save yourself the inconvenience of finding each other via WhatsApp or a telephone conversation. With Find My Friends you can look at a map and see exactly where someone is. Then all you have to do is walk there yourself to be reunited with your group of friends. Find My Friends is installed by default on every iPhone, making it one of the more accessible festival apps to use.

4. Storm alarm

No matter how good the line up is at a festival, the weather largely determines the atmosphere. That’s why it’s better to be informed in time if a heavy rain shower is on the way. Buienalarm is the ideal app for this, because you can receive useful notifications with it when it is about to rain. This way you know exactly when you can run back to your tent for a rain cape, or find a shelter before the rest of the festival site gets the same idea. Buienalarm is in our opinion one of the most indispensable festival apps in this list.

5. Lighter

A little atmosphere during emotional songs can’t hurt, but if you don’t smoke you probably don’t have a lighter in your pocket either. Fortunately, you can transform the screen of your iPhone into mood light with this Lighter app. Useful? Not really, but it sure looks better than a bright flash from your iPhone that moves you back and forth to the beat of the music. Nice bonus: the flame of the lighter actually moves with you when you swing your device back and forth.

6. Lowlands 2019

Lowlands also has its own app, where you can view the complete line-up. This way you know exactly which artist is on which stage at what time. In addition, the app contains information about what you can eat and drink on site and you get answers to frequently asked questions. By putting together your own program in the app, you will receive a notification when an act starts. Handy if you still have to get out of your tent and if you don’t miss that one artist you actually went to the festival for.

7. IStayHere

The ‘IkStaHier’ service is becoming increasingly popular, and that’s not surprising. Via the website you tap the festival you are going to, and then download the maps of each stage. That makes it very easy to let your friends know exactly where you stand. Behind the most right pole of the tent for example, or to the left of the front compartment at the mainstage. You can easily meet up by sharing the card with your friends. There is no separate app available for this service, you simply click on the website and get access to all maps.

8. Shazam

Of course you know roughly which bands and artists are at the festival where you are going, but there will undoubtedly come a moment when you have no idea who is playing that one cool song. Shazam is your best friend right now, especially when there’s no live band playing but you hear a new song at an after party somewhere that you want to listen to later when you get home. Simply put your iPhone in the air with Shazam on it and the app will search for the corresponding song after a few seconds. This makes reminiscing about the festival very easy.

Other festival apps

Of course, all major Dutch and international apps also have their own iOS apps. Below we have listed the most important, from Pinkpop to Lowlands and from Glastonbury to Rock Werchter.
