The iPhone 14 is going to be a lot more expensive to make. This is because Apple is going to make some adjustments to the front camera of the new smartphone.
iPhone 14 will be more expensive to make
You have to wait until September to see the new iPhones. What we already know, however, is that the iPhone 14 is going to be more expensive to make. Apple has switched to LG Innotek to make the front camera of the iPhone 14. This company from South Korea will take care of the production together with the Japanese Sharp.
Originally, a Chinese manufacturer was supposed to make the camera, but Apple has now switched due to high quality requirements. In addition, Apple has also labeled the camera as a ‘high-quality’ part, which means that the quality requirements are higher.
As a result, the front camera will cost almost three times as much, making it more expensive for Apple to make the iPhone 14. It is not yet certain whether we will also see this in the final sales price (we hope not).
Front camera iPhone 14: autofocus and wider aperture
The reliable Ming-Chi Kuo had already said that Apple was going to change the front camera of the iPhone 14. The camera now gets autofocus.
Kuo went on to say that the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Max, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will all get an improved front camera and an aperture of ƒ/1.9. The front camera of the iPhone 13 (including the iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro Max and the iPhone 13 mini) has a fixed focus and an aperture of ƒ/2.2.
A wider aperture (with a lower number) means more light passes through the lens and hits the iPhone 14’s sensor. This makes for better photos. Kuo went on to say that the upgrade to the front camera can also provide a better depth effect in portrait mode. The autofocus then comes in handy during FaceTime and other video calls.
Four new iPhones
There are rumored to be four new iPhone 14 models this year, and they’re all going to be more expensive to make. Something is also changing in the formats, because a successor to the iPhone 13 mini is not forthcoming. The regular iPhones are the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max, which seem to differ little from their predecessor.
With the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, more is going to change. The notch disappears (the black bar at the top of the iPhone) and makes way for two holes. In addition, Apple introduces an impressive 48-megapixel camera.
