In addition to electric E-Transit
Ford initially presented the all-new Transit Custom only as an electric E-Transit Custom. Now Ford is also lifting a corner of the veil of the new Transit Custom with plug-in hybrid powertrain and the diesel engines that will be available.
In May, Ford introduced the new Transit Custom. The commercial vehicle made its debut as an electric E-Transit Custom, which can travel up to 380 kilometers on a full battery. AutoWeek was able to report in May that the Transit Custom will also be available with a diesel engine. Ford has now highlighted those self-igniters and immediately reports that there will also be a plug-in hybrid Transit Custom.
The Ford Transit Custom PHEV will have the same plug-in hybrid powertrain as the plug-in Kuga. That means that there is a 2.5 liter four-cylinder in the front that runs according to the Atkinson principle. Together with an electric motor, this produces a system power of 225 hp. The Transit Custom PHEV contains an 11.8 kWh battery pack, good for an electric range of 57 kilometers. A 2.3 kW on-board charger is standard. In addition to E-Transit and Plug-in Hybrid, the new Transit Custom will be available with a range of EcoBlue diesel engines, with a choice of 110 hp, 136 hp, 150 hp or 170 hp. The diesels are available at an additional cost with an eight-speed automatic transmission, although that automatic transmission is only available in combination with four-wheel drive. Interesting: the electric E-Transit Custom has rear-wheel drive, while the PHEV always has front-wheel drive. The diesels are available with front or four-wheel drive.
The new Ford Transit Custom can be ordered in the Netherlands as Trend, Limited, Trail and Sport. A 13-inch infotainment screen where Sync4 shows its tricks is standard. The Transit Custom will soon be available as a panel van, as a delivery van with a double cabin and as a passenger bus. In addition, there are two length and two height sizes.
The diesel-powered Ford Transit Custom will come to the Netherlands in mid-2023. The electric E-Transit Custom and the plug-in hybrid Transit Custom PHEV will follow later that year.
