Suzuki unveils EV plans: 8 EV engines by 2030, first EV engine in 2024

Suzuki will launch its first electric motorcycle next year, the Japanese announced today in the FY2030 growth strategy. For FY2030, Suzuki will contribute to the realization of a carbon-neutral society and the economic growth of emerging countries, while Japan and Europe remain the core business.

When Suzuki announced last year as a bolt from the blue that it would withdraw from all motorsport activities, including MotoGP, the reason given was to want to put the financial resources into the development of electric mobility.

Motorsport had always been the laboratory where technology was developed that would eventually find its way into production models, but with full carbon neutrality by 2050 as the ultimate goal, it is no longer interesting to invest heavily in motorsport if there is no future on the street. application is more.

Unlike Honda and Kawasaki, who have already presented an EV future plan, Suzuki was still vague last year about when something could be expected. Until now, because during the announcement of the FY230 (FY stands for Fiscal Year) Growth Strategy, Suzuki has now revealed its EV plans.

For light and medium-sized motorcycles, which are used as a daily means of transport, for example to go to school, work or to go shopping, Suzuki will launch an EV motorcycle as early as FY2024. By FY2030, Suzuki plans to have launched 8 EV models, 25% of the total offering in those segments.

The 8 EV models to be launched are therefore mainly intended for in and around the city, which is comparable to the two EV models that Kawasaki will launch this year. For heavy-duty engines, Suzuki says it is considering switching to carbon-neutral fuels.
