Smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi is said to be in talks with the Beijing Automotive Group, better known as BAIC, for the production of its future electric cars.

In 2019 it already seeped out that Xiaomi, known for smartphones which are also available in the Netherlands, wants to build electric cars. Even the link with the Chinese car giant BAIC has already been made, but in direct connection to its currently somewhat under-the-radar Borgward branch. That link will be released in the new message.

Bloomberg reports that Xiaomi and BAIC are in talks about an electric car partnership. This would specifically concern production, which invariably proves to be a difficult bump for other newcomers to the car world. Working with a company that already has experience with this, such as BAIC, doesn’t seem like a bad idea. According to the insiders who spoke to Bloomberg, it is being examined whether Xiaomi can buy part of a factory of the joint venture that BAIC has with South Korean Hyundai.
