Lamborghini has mapped out a route to full electrification under the name Direzione Cor Tauri. The brand initially puts the conventional combustion engines in the limelight, but from 2024 will only have electrified cars in its range.
Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann sheds light on the route that Lamborghini will take in the coming years under the title Direzione Cor Tauri. The brand cannot ignore electrification to achieve its CO2 targets. Lamborghini will invest no less than € 1.5 billion over the next four years in electrification and in making its entire company as CO2 neutral as possible. The strategy is named after Cor Tauri, the brightest star in the constellation of Taurus.
The Direzione Cor Tauri path has three stages, the first of which takes place in the years 2021 and 2022. This year and next year, Lamborghini says it will develop combustion engines for special versions based on existing models. With these new exclusive models, Lamborghini says it wants to honor its past. This year the brand announces two more new cars that will get a mighty V12 behind the front seats. Count on special models in the style of cars such as the Aventador-based Sián.
Lamborghini Sián (2019)
We don’t call this Sián for nothing. The Sián and its open-cut Sián Roadster brother were the first Lamborghinis ever to be equipped with a hybrid power source. In 2023, during the second phase of its roadmap, Lamborghini will launch its first series-build model with a hybrid powertrain, as the Siáns were only available in a limited edition. 63 units of the dense Sián are being built, while the circulation of the Sian Roadster is limited to 19 units. By the end of 2024, Lamborghini wants to have its entire line-up electrified and that means that the Aventador successor was also presented in that year. The Urus and the replacement for the Huracán were probably also presented with mild hybrid machines. In order to guarantee the Lambo character also in models with heavier hybrid powertrains, Lamborghini says it will continue to focus on the development of new lightweight materials, among other things.
In the second half of this decade, Lamborghini will release its first fully electric model. This is the third phase of Lamborghini’s roadmap. The electric Lamborghini is described as ‘the fourth model’ and that means that it is a completely new bloodline next to that of the Urus, Huracán and Aventador.
