Cycle or walk along the IVN . routes

With a few hundred routes on offer, varying from very short to very long, the IVN has a portion of healthy outdoor air for everyone.

The Institute for Nature Education (IVN) has a few hundred walking and cycling routes on offer on its website and app. Free and for nothing. Made by volunteers who are committed to nature in the Netherlands with heart and soul. The shortest (walking) route measures 0.2 km; the longest (cycling) route 66 km. In short, there is something for everyone. Join us on the road!

There is an app for it android devices and for iPhones. Put it on the smartphone and start the app for the first time. The app will probably ask for permission one or more times. Then tap Agree and/or To allow. Without that permission, the app cannot work properly. Now we are ready to select our first route.

  • Launch the app.
  • Indicate whether you are looking for a cycling route or walk. To do this, tap the appropriate option. It turns green.
  • Filter by distance if necessary. By default, the filter is set to the maximum distance. Move the green ball to the left with your finger to decrease the distance.
  • Tap on near to search on/near a place.
  • Tap on find place and enter a (part of a) place name.
  • The search results appear below the text box. Tap the place you are looking for.
  • Tap the white circle with the green magnifying glass to start the search.
  • An overview of found routes follows. Tap a route to read information about the walk or bike ride.
  • Tap on download this route to save the route on the smartphone. The route can also be followed when there is no internet connection on the way.

Tip: The routes are constantly updated. The IVN therefore recommends that you only download a route just before you leave. Then you are sure of the most current situation. Make it a habit to delete a route immediately after walking/cycling.
