Genesis sends out electric newcomer

Genesis, Hyundai’s luxury brand, has started testing an electric newcomer. The car shares its base with the Hyundai ’45’ and the Kia ‘Imagine’, but this will of course be the crème de la crème of this trio.

Hyundai, Kia and Genesis will compete electrically in the coming years with models based on their new modular E-GMP platform. A base that is specially intended for cars that can be delivered purely as BEV. The first batch concerns three striking high legged ones; a Kia largely based on the Imagine Concept, a Hyundai inspired by the 45 Concept and the Genesis that we now have in front of us. In the corridors the Genesis is referred to as JW.

Although the trio from South Korea cannot simply be placed in an existing box, they all take a slightly different path. The Genesis looks the most conservatively designed of the three. Between the camouflage stickers we see the Genesis characteristic of two parallel stripes consisting of front and rear lights. As with the Kia and the Hyundai, they opt for a fairly sloping roof line. Although the whole looks a bit squat because of this, we are apparently dealing with a fairly large car here. Compare it with the Golf and the CLK in the background and you see that the model towers quite high above the ground.

The ‘JW’ is probably a Tesla Model Y and Audi Q4 e-Tron sized car. In that case, count on about 4.6 to 4.8 meters in length, with a wheelbase of about 2.8 meters. If he wants to be able to stand his ground against such cars, you can easily count on a range of at least 500 kilometers and of course the latest technology on board to fill the battery like a rocket. Genesis would not be Genesis if the car is not nice and thick in its stuff. Count on a sumptuous interior, a large infotainment screen and the latest safety systems. Who knows, with this ‘JW’, Genesis may see a point in taking on the more luxurious EVs here in Europe. For the time being, the brand is passing our door here.
