Kia has sent out a first prototype of a brand new model. It is an electrically powered crossover, which apparently not only heralds a new era in terms of technology.
Kia is working hard behind the scenes to expand his EV offensive. Contrary to what is now the case (with the e-Niro and e-Soul), there will also be Kias that are purely electrically powered. Here we see one of them. There was a complete lack of exhaust noise when driving past the car, according to our spy photographer. Exhaust pipes were also nowhere to be seen. The car is still packed enthusiastically, but it is clear that this is a crossover that seems to feel at home in the middle class in terms of size.
Kia Imagine
The strikingly sloping roofline and the relatively low-positioned headlights ring a bell. Kia showed that kind of thing at the Imagine Concept from the beginning of last year. That was a preview of the purely electrically powered future models of the brand and you can bet that this is one of them. Also at the rear (even though it can be misleadingly packed) we see influences from that concept car: a sharp fold behind an apparently quite sloping rear window. The Futuron Concept at the end of last year also had that. All in all, Kia seems to be taking a new path in terms of design with this as yet unnamed EV.
Of course it is still quite a bit of coffee to see what can be expected from the car, because it is still a very early stage of development. We probably shouldn’t expect the electric Kia to hit the market before 2022. What is almost certainly the case is that the E-GMP platform forms the basis for the car. Kia and Hyundai use this modular base for their future EVs.
