Are you planning to take a refreshing dip in the water? Then you can just keep your Apple Watch on. It is important that you activate the water seal function. What can you do with the water lock on your Apple Watch and how do you activate the function?
As the name suggests, you can use the water seal to shut off your Apple Watch from water. The watch then no longer registers touches on the screen and that prevents the watch from running wild while swimming. The function does not make your watch more resistant to water.
Switch on water lock
You can turn the water lock on at any time by holding your finger on the bottom of the screen and swiping up when you see the watch face or when you are in an app. You will then end up in the control panel, where you will see a drop. If you don’t see the drop, you still have to add the function to the control panel.
In Control Center, scroll down and tap Change. Drag the drop icon to a new place and tap Ready. When you then tap on the drop, you activate the water lock. It is not a disaster if you are in the water and have forgotten to turn on the water lock. Basically, the feature turns on automatically when you start a workout in or on the water, but it’s good to know how to manually turn it on.
With the water lock on you can still see the time by moving your wrist and if you use the Workout app you can see the progress you make during exercise. Siri will also continue to work if you Hey Siri calls out or raises your wrist, but the jog wheel on the side of your watch doesn’t work.
Also, with the water lock turned on, your watch continues to make a sound and measure your heart rate or oxygen. GPS also works and if you need urgent help, you can continue to hold down the side button to send out an SOS emergency message.
Switch off water lock
If you want to use all the functions of your watch, you must switch off the water lock again by turning the rotary knob in either direction until you Unlocked on the screen. A series of tones will then be played to clear the water remaining in the speaker. After that you can use your screen normally again.
